Recent news shows UN Scientist warn worsening of Global warming. Earth is getting warmer and warmer each year. Scientists warn the earth will likely be warming by 2 degree Celsius by 2030. Confirming by scientists that human activities cause climate change.

By 2 degrees Celsius, that doesn’t sound like a lot. But it can cause drastic changes in our earth 's function, and crops no longer able to grow accompanied by more severe weather.

Methane and CO2 are the major causes of global warming. Now how do we help to reduce CO2 and Methane into the atmosphere?

What creates more CO2? Most came from burning fossil fuels and Industrial farming.

What creates more methane into the atmosphere? Majority of methane gas is released from organic waste like food waste from landfill and natural gases, AKA burps, and farting from animals and humans too.

Hopefully we won’t think 100 degree summer is perhaps the new normal for Los Angeles.

The threat is imminent and critical, we must do our part. But don’t get overwhelmed and hopeless. We are in this together. That’s how One Eco Store started! We want to create a non-judgmental learning platform for each other to learn and to live the life we can enjoy.

We believe if each of us makes 1-2 changes, COLLECTIVELY, we can change the world!

So here are some simple steps,

  1. Use only cold water to wash dishes and laundry. Hang dry laundry and turn off lights when not in use. We need a lot of energy to heat equipment and boil water. When we reduce energy consumption, we use less fossil fuels.

2. Reduce food waste. Buy what you need, and clear up your fridge. Compost it if you have a yard, or to your green waste bin if your city allows it. Or go to your community compost facilities. These are great sites to find your local compost, or you can share your compost with your neighbor. Visit www.sharewaste.com and www.LAcompost.org to learn more. You can compost non-treated woods, plant based compostable material and most untreated papers.

3. Buy recycled materials, things do not need to be extracted from RAW virgin materials. If you need to buy plastic, find something that is made of recycled content. Or just reuse it! Find something that is package free, support local makers and crafters, refill your foods and soaps at bulk stores or buy things in bulk.

4. Use up your stuff before you buy new things. When buying new things please consider second hand. Highly recommended to join Buy Nothing Group, if you have facebook. You can give out what you don’t need instead of going to the landfill.

5. Vote! Write letters to your representative. Support politicians who try hard to fight for climate change. Try to get your local representative to sign up for a food waste bin with the hauler who collects with green waste. Some cities now do that, like Culver City and Alhambra! Yay!

6. High plant-based diet. You do not need to be completely Vegan if it is tough. But reduce consumption of beef and lambs.

7. Support organic farms for organic foods. These farms try hard to maintain their soil fertile by not using pesticides, which kill the pest, but also kill the soil. If finance is a struggle, not everything that has to be organic, consider these are the main one to look out for.

8. Last but not least, drive less! Carpool, walk more! Try to organize your errand together so you don't have to make so many trips. Your are gaining your health too!
